1989 JL 20L. Dean "Mac" Bailey
L. Dean "Mac" Bailey, son of Roy E. and Harriett Gardner Bailey, was born January 25, 1912 near Selma and died at his home near Selma the afternoon of Friday, July 14, 1989 at the age of 77.
He graduated from Selma High School and attended Parsons College in Fairfield. He attended the Selma United Methodist Church, was a 50-year member and Chancellor Commander of Starlight Lodge No. 350, Knights of Pythias and a member of Douds Temple No. 104, Pythian Sisters at Douds. Mac had served the Domain of Iowa, Order of Knights of Pythias in several offices including that of Grand Chancellor, the highest office in the order in Iowa. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and had been involved in numerous community activities.
He married Margaret Pool September 22, 1931 in Kahoka, Mo. and they have lived their married life in the Selma community. She remains to cherish his memory with their son Larry and his wife, Martha Ann of Selma, their daughter, Mary Nell Northup and her husband, Jerry of Floris, five grandchildren, Rick Northup, Bloomfield, Shelley Carlburg, Selma, Jody Gray, Austin, Minnesota, and Danny Bailey, Selma, five great grandchildren, Ryan and Shaun Northup, Aaron Trier, and Joshua and Virginia Bailey, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 17, 1989 at 11 A.M. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, with Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Interment was in Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Douds. A memorial was established for the American Cancer Society.
