Hazel Smock, Creston
Hazel Fern Smock, 88, of Creston, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 1989, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Corning.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Maple Hill Cemetery at Cromwell. The Rev. Neil Schroeder will officiate the service. There is an open visitation at the Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Creston.
Memorials may be directed to the Cromwell Congregational Church of Christ.
Miss Smock was born Oct. 2, 1901, near Cromwell in Adams County to Alden L. and Frances Edna (Bacon) Smock. She graduated from Creston High School in 1920 and worked in childrens homes in Iowa and Illinois for 40 years, retiring in 1965. She had been a resident of Creston for the past 24 years. She was a member of the Cromwell Congregational United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a sister in law Thelma Smock of Cromwell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harry.

Smock Biography written by Hazel Smock and submitted to Ancestry.Com"In 1933 Hazel Smock went to Davenport, Iowa, to work for the State of Iowa as Head Supervisor in the Annie Wittenmeyer Home. Later she transferred to the same position in the Veterans' Childrens' Home in Peoria, Illinois. In placement fields and court cases, Hazel traveled to other cities. She was a buyer for the clothing and furnishings at both institutions.
Hazel retired from the state of Illinois in 1969 and return to Creston, Iowa where she still resides. "
