Afton--Raymond Herbert Kelly Sr., 65, of rural Thayer died of complications due to cancer March 15, 1993, at his home.Services will be 2;30p.m., Wednesday at the Stroud-Lindsay Golden Rule Funeral Home with a family night from 7-9 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Mr. Kelly was born June 7, 1928 in Des Moines to William Herbert and Hazel Melvina (Earp) Kelly. He married Emma Caroline Pope January 3, 1948 in Grinnell.
He resided in West Des Moines until moving to Indianola in 1951, to Waukee in 1955 and to Thayer in 1969. He worked for Roberts and Williams of Des Moines for more than 20 years as a carpet layer until injuries suffered in an automobile accident caused his retirement on August 13, 1971. He was a member of the Jaycees of West Des Moines.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Kelly of Thayer, two daughters, Mary (husband Danny) Williams of Afton and Caroline (husband John Barr Jr.) Kelly of Kansas City, Mo.; five sons, Bill "Pecos" Kelly of Thayer, Raymond Herbert (wife Ruth Ann) Kelly Jr. of Wahington, Iowa, Vern (wife Dodie) Kelly Sr. and Rex (wife Dallas) Kelly of Afton, and Kim (wife Carol) Kelly of Eureka, Kansas; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Iverna Kelly of Branson, Missouri.; and a brother-in-law, Mel Adams of Kingman, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; asister, Lois M. McNurlen; and a brother Vernon L.Kelly.
