OBITUARY: OLD SETTLER DIED THURSDAY/Mrs. J. C. Filbert Was Born in France; Came to Iowa 62 Years Ago...... Mary Celestine Paymol, daughter of Francis and Mary Paymol, was born in France August 1, 1842, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles (May) Underwood, near Sharpsburg, Iowa at 6 P.M. on April 3, 1930 at the age of 88 years 8 months and 3 days, after an illness of 3 months.
She came to America with her parents at the age of 6 years, landing at New Orleans and coming by boat to Peoria, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood.
On October 7, 1858, she was married to J. C. Filbert at Quincy, Illinois, to which union were born 9 children, 6 girls and 3 boys.
Sixty-two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Filbert came to Iowa by wagon, locating on a farm 9 miles west of Lenox. Mrs. Filbert spent the greater part of her life since in Taylor County. She was preceeded in death by her husband, who died 16 years ago, and 3 daughters who died in infancy. Mrs. Filbert is survived by 6 children, Mrs. T. C. Olson of Ellston, Iowa; Norris Edmund of Pueblo, Colorado; John E. and Mrs. Charles Underwood of Sharpsburg; Mrs. Fred Brooke of Drummer, Saskatchewan,Canada; and Frank A. of Ellendale, North Dakota; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Funeral Services were held at the Catholic church of which Mrs. Filbert was a member on Saturday, April 5, conducted by Fr. Pouget.
