Lewis D. Van Alstine
November 29, 1917 - August 29, 1984Lewis Doran was born November 29, 1917 near Clarinda, Iowa in Taylor County and passed away August 29, 1984 at his home in Stuart, Iowa. Lewis was the son of Lewis George and Bertha (Sollars) Van Alstine.
In April of 1936 he was united in marriage to Virginia Waxmonsky of Clarinda, Iowa and two children were born to this union.
Before his retirement Lewis had been employed by the state of Iowa, caring for the building and grounds of the State Capitol in Des Moines.
On October 2, 1971 he was united in marriage to Orpha Derrickson of Earlham, Iowa. In May of this year they moved to their present home in Stuart.
Preceding him in death were his parents and wife Virginia.
Surviving are his wife Orpha; his two children, Joanne (Mrs. Larry Nulph) of Stuart, Iowa and Larry L. of Auburn, Illinois; three stepchildren, Barbara Clayton of Dallas, Texas, Bob Derrickson of Earlham, Iowa and Larry Derickson of Salt Lake City, Utah; two grandsons, one granddaughter; seven step-granddaughters; one brother Dale of Clarinda, Iowa; two sisters, Letha Williamson of White Salmon, Washington and Vona Robertson of Solon, Iowa, other relatives and friends.
Burial was in the Clarinda cemetery.
