Genevie E. Shefchik, 94, of Tama, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Grandview Acres in Toledo, following her brief illness. Funeral Services were held Saturday, July 30, at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.
Genevie was born on April 23, 1911, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Cornelius Meyers and Edna Ray Collins. She attended school in Tama. On June 6, 1929, she was united in marriage to Clyde Plowman and after his death she married Raymond Shefchik on Aug. 31, 1935. She formerly worked at Munson's Restaurant in Tama and the Tama Papermill. She also was a bartender at Kublek's and the Gaslight Club in Tams. She was always active as an election official. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles, but Genevie's greatest enjoyment in life was her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; one daughter, Pat Crandall; one son, Richard Plowman; four brothers; two sisters, and one great-granddaughter, Stacey Jo Alexander. She is survived by one son Russell (Lois) Shefchik of Tama; one daughter, Catherine (Larry) Anderson of Tama; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Ruth Plowman of Garwin. A memorial fund has been established. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, was in charge of the arrangements.
