Julia Merdka
1880 - 1896

The Opinion-Tribune (Glenwood, Iowa) Thursday, 13 Aug 1896, page 4
Julia Merdka, an intelligent and comely lass of 16 summers, whose home is at Quarry, committed suicide at Montour. It was the result of a quarrel with her lover, Truman Dodson, a farmer boy. She left home Thursday morning, going to Montour, a few miles east. She stopped at the hotel during the day and in the evening went to a drug store, where she bought strychnine. Returning to the hotel she took a fatal dose and died in great agony.
