1833 - 1892

The Algona Republican (Algona, Iowa) Wednesday, 10 Aug 1892, page 2

Jacob Hanzelka, a farmer living near Chelsea, suicided in the middle of a big corn field by shooting himself in the head. His body was not discovered for several days.

The Humboldt Independent (Humboldt, Iowa) Thursday, 11 Aug 1892, page 2

JACOB HARZELKA [HANZELKA], a farmer living one mile north of Chelsea, was found dead by a neighbor's straw stack in the middle of a large corn field at noon, with his empty shot gun laying by him. He had shot himself in the forehead, causing instant death. Harzelka [Hanzelka] was first missed from home three days before and the rash act must have been committed at that time, as the body gives evidence of having laid fully that time. No cause can be assigned for the act.
