L. J. Nygaard Laid to Rest

Well Known Story City Man Reached the High Age of 86 Years--Died Last Friday.

Lewis J. Nygaard, for fifty years a resident of this community, died at the old people's home last Friday, having reached the high age of 86 years and 6 1/2 months.

For a number of years he has been in a crippled condition, necessitating the use of two crutches to get around, and a month ago he and his wife gave up their home in order to enter the Sunset Home.

He is survived by his aged wife and one daughter, Mrs. A. J. Kruse of Los Angeles. The latter was unable to come to the funeral, which was held in the Sunset Chapel Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Nelson officiated and Mrs. Lester Henderson rendered a special vocal selection. The pall bearers were Clarence Knutson, Jake Gjerde, Thor Jacobson, Osmund Vangness, Sam Opstvedt and Anfin Hanson.

Mr. Nygard was born near Stavanger, Norway, Sept. 3, 1852, spending his early years as a sailor and immigrated to America soon after his marriage to Bertine Gundersdatter Nov. 8, 1878. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Nygaard, seven of whom preceded the father in death.
