Dan Johnson Heeds Final Summons
Daniel Johnson, for many years one of the community's well known characters, died at the home of his cousin, Mrs. Kathrine Amlund, last Thursday night. He had been manifestly in failing strength the past two years and for several weeks he drew rapidly to the close of his earthly life.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at which Rev. Nelson officiated, first at the prayer service in the Amlund home and than at the St. Petri church, of which Mr. Johnson had so long been a member. Relatives acted as pall bearers, and the special singing in the church was by the choir.
Came Here as Young Man
Dan Johnson came to America in 1881. He was born in Norway March 8, 1859, his parents being Johannes Larsen Andal and Anna Eriksdatter. He never married and made Story City his home after coming to this country, with the exception of a year and a half spent out in Washington in the latter part of the 80's.
He entered into partnership with Hans Amlund in the wagon business and continued that for many years after the latter's death. In late years he did sundry repair work and specialized in sharpening tools and lawn mowers. During all these years he made his home with the Amlund family.
Mr. Johnson was of a sturdy and reliable character. For a period of several terms he was a member of the city council and acted in various official capacities in his church and Sunday school. He also held positions of trust in the K. P. lodge and the Modern Woodman camp.
Interment was made in the Fairview cemetery.
