"DEATH TAKES MR. AMENSEN
HAD LIVED IN COMMUNITY FOR OVER SEVENTY YEARS
H. J. Amensen, who has been in ill health this year, died at 8 o'clock Monday morning from a heart ailment and other complications. His condition became critical during the summer, but he improved somewhat and was able to sit up part of the time, but a week ago last Sunday he again became critically ill and failed to overcome the attack.
Henry J. Amensen (Helge Fosen) was born June 13, 1865, at Nertsrand, Norway, and died at his home in Roland October 31, 1938, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 18 days.
He came to this community with his mother when he was two years old and lived north of Roland for 70 years, until in the spring of 1937 when he moved to the residence in town. In the summer of 1930 he took a trip to Norway to visit places of interest.
On March 17, 1898, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Elizabeth Birkeland who survives him. He also leaves three sons, Elmer, Irwin and Milford of this place, and six stepchildren, Mrs. M. O. Rod, Mrs. T. C. Jacobson, Mrs. Carl J. Jacobson, S. O. Birkeland and Mrs. M J. Rod, of this place, and Mrs. Clara Hoff of Makoti, N. D. He also leaves 7 grandchildren.
The funeral was held today with services at the home and at Bergen Lutheran church were he was a member. The pastor, Rev. M. O. Sumstad officiated, and interment is being made in the Roland cemetery.
Music at the funeral consists of a solo, "Den Store Hvide Flok Vi Se" by Otto J. Hanson, and a song, "Sweet Peace, the Gift of God's Love," by the Women's Chorus.
The pall bearers are grandchildren of Mrs. Amensen, Amos, Carroll, Herbert and Thomas Jacobson, Robert Birkeland and Paul Rod."
