OBITUARIES
MRS. C. B. PETERSON
Christin Oline Olson was born on her parents' (Christopher Olson and Alis Hanson Olson) mountain farm and range, Bjornebole, in Kvinherred parish, April 25th, 1849.
When three years old her mother died and she was adopted and raised by an aunt's family, Mr. and Mrs. Torger Dosland, in Dimmelsvig, same parish as above, until she was 16 year old, when, with two sisters she immigrated to United States in 1865, and came to our place in Benton county, where another sister, Mrs. Hendrik Pederson, also lived.
The first two years she worked for us and other farmers, then worked for about four years for a Judge Green, a railroad builder, at Cedar Rapids.
In 1870 we moved to Story county, Iowa. When father died in 1871, and as i was the only child in the family, I had to give up my college course to care for mother and, according to previous arrangements, she came to help me in this work, and we were married January 4, 1872. We lived in Story county for over 40 years, when we moved to Hubbard county, Minn., where she continued to develop a pioneer home again.
On May 18th, 1938, she entered the door between time and eternity, and left us to mourn the departure of a perfect wife and mother. The last word we heard from her was that she was sure God had heard her prayers for salvation thru Christ. She had always taken part in church work wherever we lived, as long as she felt able to do so. She was 89 years, 23 days old at her death. Our married life had been continued as a honeymoon for 66 years, 4 months and 13 days.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, 7 children (2 children died in infancy), 23 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, who will revere her memory, and hope to meet as time passes, and while waiting take comfort in the poet's words:
"Not what God gives, but what He takes
That uplifts us to the holiest heights."
