DEATH OF MRS. MATHEWS

Mrs. Jay Mathews, 36, a life long resident of Story county, died at her farm home two miles southwest of Gilbert, Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, following an illness with cancer.

Inez Leona Mathews was born Sept. 18, 1901, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Reynolds, pioneer Story county settlers.

She was married to Jay Mathews, March 7, 1923, at Ames. They had celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary in March this year. Surviving her are her husband and one daughter, Elsie Catherine, age 9. Her mother, Mrs. Matilda Reynolds, and one sister, Mrs. Ira Mathews of Gilbert.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Congregational church, with the pastor, Rev. Alec Russell, in charge, with burial in the Gilbert cemetery.

Mrs. Mathews had been active in the Gilbert Women's club, the Missionary society and church. Sincerest sympathy from their many friends is extended the bereaved husband and daughter in the loss of the wife and mother, who will be so greatly missed in the home and community.
