Mrs. Mary Johnson Was Laid to Rest Monday

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Mary Johnson, 77, who died at the Story City hospital last Saturday morning, following an week's illness at that institution.

The services were conducted by Rev. Heimarck, beginning with a prayer service at the Andrew Hanson home southwest of town, and the final service was held in the Immanuel church at two o'clock. The singing was by a choir composed of Mrs. Horace Smith, Dorothy Ahrens, Arnold and Vernon Anderson, with Miss Olive Alsager at the organ.

The pall bearers were: Albert Frandson, Bert Hill, Nels Laueson, Lew Brattebo, Jacob Hoversten and Torbjorn Holm. Interment was made at Center cemetery.

Obituary

Mary Johnson was born at Fyen, Denmak, Feb. 2, 1860. When 23 years old she came to America and since that time has been a resident of Story county. The last 18 years she made her home in Story City.

She was married in September, 1883, to George F. Johnson. To this union eight children were born, of whom two daughters (Ida Johnson and Mary Balderston) preceded her in death.

She was confirmed in the Danish Lutheran church when 14 years old, and kept her faith to the end, being during her residence in Story City a faithful member of the Immanuel congregation.

Mrs. Johnson as of an unselfish and cheerful disposition, finding her greatest happiness in serving others as well as being a devoted mother and true friend. She departed this life Sept. 4, 1937 at the local hospital, having reached the age of 77 years, 7 months and 12 days.

She leaves to mourn her death six children, namely Mrs. C. M. Hare of Ft. Dodge, Axel Johnson of Keokuk, Mrs. Oscar Gibson of Gilbert, W. H. Johnson of Gilbert, Mrs. Andrew Hanson of Story City and Iner Johnson of Pleasantville. Also 12 grandchildren and one great grandson survive her.
