GOTSKALK G. MYRE

Gotskalk G. Myre was born July 5, 1856, in Lofald Strand, Kvinherred, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Kvinherred church. In the spring of 1880 he came to the United States. On May 4, 1884, he was united in marriage to Sonneva Skeie at Elliot, Ill. Two years later they moved to Roland, Iowa, and made their home on farms around Roland and Story City for 23 years. They came to South Dakota in 1908, and have made their home in Colton and vicinity the past 28 years.

To this union nine children were born. His wife and oldest daughter, Inger Margaret, preceded him in death. He is survived by eight children, who mourn the loss of a kind and loving Christian father. The children are: Peter, Gust, Mrs. Andrew Berge, of Colton; Mrs. A. J. Henryson of Story City, Iowa; Mrs. Lawrence Larson of Arlington; Mrs. Henry Olson and Helmer Myre of Oklee, Minn., and Lars Myre of Garretson. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Myre had been failing in health for the past four months and he passed away on March 1, 1937, having attained the age of 80 years, 7 months and 23 days.

Funeral services were held on Thursday. A short service was held at the home at 1:30, followed by services at the First Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. The local pastor, Rev. K. B. Vaaler, officiated. The remains were laid to rest in the Bethania cemetery, northwest of Colton, beside his wife, who had preceded him in death. His four cons, Peter, Gust, Lars and Helmer, and two sons-in-law, Andrew Berge and Lawrence Larson, were pallbearers.
