From Alton ... A Crossroads (1983), p. 107:
Van Kley Family Farm
In 1875 Alemyn Van Iperan and his wife Janna, both born in Holland, homesteaded 120 acres of land in Floyd Township, about five miles northeast of Alton. Alemyn suffered from tuberculosis and went to New Mexico for treatment. While he was there he died, leaving his young wife and two small children on the farm. At that time Arie Van Kley was working as their hired man and he later married Janna. They had five children. Peter Van Kley was one of the children of that marriage and he moved onto the farm and began to farm it in 1938. In 1972 Peter Van Kley retired and his son, Peter L. Van Kley, Jr., began farming the land and lives there today.
