MABEL PEARL HOGUE
Mabel Pearl Wells Hogue was born September 19, 1900 at Redding, Iowa. Mabel's parents were James L. and Clara Moler Wells. She spent her childhood days near Redding and Delphos.
As a young woman she was employed by Fatty Collins in his store in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Mabel Wells and Carl Hogue were married March 11, 1924 in Leon, Iowa. They were privileged to spend nearly 63 years together. They made their home in Ellston and then after a few years moved to Kellerton, Iowa where they resided until Mabel suffered a stroke and was unable to stay in their home. She entered the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr in late 1979.
Mabel enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers and handiwork. She was an exceptionally good cook and loved to entertain friends and relatives.
She boarded several different teachers who taught in Ellston and Kellerton. She enjoyed her neighborhood Priscilla Club of Kellerton and belonged to the American Legion auxiliary for nearly 62 years.
Mabel departed this life March 4, 1987 at the age of 86 years, five months and 12 days.
She is survived by her loving husband Carl, a sister, Edith James of Dallas, Texas, and a brother Vivian Wells of Mount Ayr, many nephews and nieces and friends.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George and Raymond Wells and sisters, Beulah Bush and Treva Waugh.
Funeral services were held March 7, 1987 from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Douglas Harding. Music was provided by Mrs. Weldon Meadows and Richard Jackson.
Casket bearers were Jim Waugh, Doyle Waugh, J. R. Wells, Gene Larson, Kenneth Baker and Robert McCreary. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
