Mary LISTER was born in North Thoresby, Eng., Dec. 24, 1822. Here her youth and early womanhood was spent until on Jan. 18, 1847, she was united in marriage with Henry THOMAS of Kirkhammerton, Eng. To them seven children were born - Lucy, who died in infancy; Robert LISTER of Wausaukee, Wis.; Edmund, who died in childhood; John, who died when a young man; Mary Elizabeth LUTHER of Wilmington, Ill.; Annie C. IMMERZEEL of Tingley, Iowa, and Lucy R. HINSDILL of Des Moines, Iowa. IN 1865 Mr. and Mrs. THOMAS came to the United States, settling on a farm near Wilmington, Ill. In 1873 Mrs. THOMAS was left a widow. The last twenty years of her life were spent in Iowa with her daughters, having come to Tingley to live with Mrs. HINSDILL about twelve years ago. Mrs. THOMAS was of a quiet, home-loving disposition, but made many friends; towards the young people especially she always manifested a great interest, enjoying their company and entering into their pleasures. Much of her time was spent in reading, which was a great pleasure for her to the last, and all who met her were surprised at her good memory and interesting conversation. As the years passed she grew very feeble but was always cheerful and delighted to see her friends. After a few days of indisposition she gently fell asleep on Saturday morning, Feb. 23, 1907, in her 85th year. Mrs. THOMAS became a member of the M.E. church at an early age, but later, with her husband, united with the Episcopalians where she remained for many years. About thirty years ago she began to study the doctrines of the New Jerusalem church and after mature consideration united with that denomination and has since remained a faithful member. In all of her long life Mrs. THOMAS has been a good neighbor, a faithful friend and a devoted wife and mother, and to no woman can greater praise be given.-Tingley Vindicator, February 28, 1907
