OBITUARY - STEWART V. ELLISON

Stewart Veril ELLISON, 77, died at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, on March 26, 1993, where he had been a patient for three weeks. Stewart had been a dialysis patient for two years.

Stewart was born on June 24, 1915, near Snyder, Colorado, to Park and Grace THOMPSON ELLISON. His parents were homesteaders. He lived there until 1918 when his parents moved back to Mount Ayr, Iowa. He graduated from high school at Ellston, Iowa, in 1933. He married Opal FREEMAN on August 8, 1942 in Mineral Wells, Texas. They were the parents of a daughter, Carol Lynn, and a son, Victor Meredith.

Stewart was a farmer most of his life. He joined the United States Army in March of 1942, and served as a medical technician in the Philippine Islands, in the 17th Infantry Regiment, until 1945. He received a Philippine Liberation Ribbon, a Combat Infantry Badge, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, the Bronze Battle Star, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He farmed after separating from the service but quit because of poor health and moved to Mount Ayr where he did woodworking and refinishing furniture.

Survivors include his wife, Opal ELLISON, of Omaha, Nebraska; son, Victor of the Honduras, Central America; daughter, Carol Lynn and husband George EVINGER of Fredricksburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Kelli, Kay and Michael EVINGER; sisters, Edna DOLSON of Winterset, Iowa, Marjorie and husband Harold ADKISSON of Mount Ayr, Audrey and husband Keith ROWE of Wellman, Iowa, and Merle and husband Howard SOUTH of Afton, Iowa; brothers, Wayne H. and wife Viema ELLISON of Eden, Texan, and Cecil L. and wife Dorothy ELLISON of Nolanville, Texas; sisters-in-law, Sally and husband Bob HOWELL of Ft. Worth, Texas and Geneva TOMLIN of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother-in-law, Earl J. LEWIS of Lakewood, Colorado, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Stewart was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Pauline LEWIS and Lula MATHANY.

Funeral services were held March 30, 1993, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Carmen LAMPE. Music was provided by Mrs. Keith SACKETT and Mrs. Francis WILLIS.

Casketbearers were Gene LARSON, Burl STULL, Bill RUSK, Lloyd ANGUS, Dale SCHLAPIA and Lloyd STEPHENS, Jr. Burial was in the Oliver Cemetery at Ellston, Iowa.

Military gravesite rites were conducted by Ringgold Post #172, American Legion.
