GEORGE WELLS, SPANISH WAR VETERAN, DIES in HOSPITAL

George WELLS, 435 Brooks St., a retired rancher and resident of western Montana more than 50 years, died Sunday [August 23, 1964] in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Ft. Harrison near Helena.

Mr. WELLS was born in Redding, Iowa, and was in the 64th Company of the Coast Artillery during the Spanish-American War serving in the Pilippine Islands.

He ranched in the Camas Prairie area, later moved to Plains and in 1943 came to Missoula where he resided the remainder of his life.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Veterans council and was a past commander of the United Spanish War Veterans and the Disabled American Veterans.

He was a member of St. Anthony Church.

Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday and requiem high mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, both in St. Anthony Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery under the direction of Geraghty Mortuary.

NOTE: George was the son of Absalom and Elizabeth Ann (WARE) WELLS. He married September 12, 1911, Plains, Montana Mamie Helen PENDERGRASS (1888-1977).
