OBITUARY - JONATHAN CORLL

Jonathan Freeman, one of nine children born to Katherine [(BRUSH)] and Joseph CORLL, first saw the light of day in Pennsylvania March 18, 1858. There he grew to young manhood.

He was married to Miss Elizabeth Margaret MOORE December 31, 1879. To this union nine sons and six daughters were born, Joe, Meva, Katherine, Sadie, Floyd, Harvey, Maggie, Will, Grace, Charley, Clyde, Dalpha, Alma, Alva and Orval.

About seven years after their marriage the family moved from Pennsylvania to Putnam county, Missouri, and in 1900, they came to Decatur county, Iowa, and the communities of Lamoni and Kellerton have been home to them from that time on.

Mr. CORLL gave himself unselfishly to the care and comforts of his home and loved ones. He was deeply interested in every activity for the community betterment. He was a good neighbor and generous toward those who met with misfortune. By his friendly and congenial disposition he had endeared himself to a large circle of friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, who departed this life April 7, 1936 and by two daughters, Mrs. Katherine WELLINGTON, of Missouri, who entered into rest July 1, 1906 and Mrs. Meva Walker of Unionville, Mo., who passing occurred August 26, 1940.

Though drawing near to the western horizon of life's earthly journey he continued active and took a great interest in all the changes of this modern age, and then about six months ago his health began to fail rapidly, and even in this recent illness no one could have been more patient and appreciative of what was being done for him, but in spite of the care of loving hands and medical skill he answered the final summons into the great beyond May 28, 1943, being at the age of 85 years, two month and 10 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure thirteen children, Joe CORLL of Tuskee, Mrs. Sadie POWELL of Kansas City, MO, Floyd of Mount Ayr, Harvey of Van Wert, Mrs. Maggie SMITH of Lamoni, Charley of Grand River, Alva of Lamoni, Clyde of Kellerton, Mrs. Dalpha NEWTON of Kellerton, Mrs. Grace KUDER of Kellerton, and Will, Alma and Orville on the home place east of Kellerton.

Besides his children he leaves one sister, Mrs. Clara SHAW of Pennsylvania, 38 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, a large number of nieces and nephews, besides these many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church by the Rev. Z. M. BRESSLER. A mixed quartet, composed of Mrs. Frank SEASHOLTZ, Mrs. Howard FRENCH, Wallace FARMER and B. W. WHITSON, accompanied by Mrs. Glen ROBINSON at the piano, sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "The City Four Square" and "Going Down the Valley." The pallbearers were A. I. PAYTON, Charley PAYTON, John GALBRAITH, John DAVENPORT, Cecil CRECELIUS and Frank CHANDLER. Interment was made in the Kellerton [Maple Row] cemetery.
