THREE KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT

The Funeral was Held at the Christian Churh Last Sunday and was one of the Largest Ever Held in Onawa

On last Thursday evening July 3rd at a little after six o'clock occurred one of the saddest accidents which has taken place in the vicinity of Onawa for many months. When David LAMB, a young and prosperous farmer of this place in company with his wife, two children and a sister-in-law Miss Winifred MARSHALL, were struck by the Carroll local passnger at the Mann crossing. Mr. and Mrs. LAMB being killed instantly, and Miss MARSHALL being injured so badlythat she died before reaching the hospital at Sioux Citywhere she was rushed to for aid. The two little girls were injured but it is thought at this time that they will get along alright.

There were a few eye witnesses to the tragedy, but none seemed to know how the accident occurred. Evidently Mr. LAMB'S car was in the center of the track when it was struck as it was completely demolished. There is two theroies regarding the accident. One being that the occupants of the car did not hear the approaching train until it was upon them, and, another is that they were endeavoring to cross the track before the train. The little girls have not as yet made any statement of the accident.

The funeral services were conducted from the First Christian church here last Sunday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. C. S. KLECKNER and was one of the largest funerals ever held in Onawa fully 1200 people being in attendance. The obituary as read by Mr. KLECKNER is as follows:

David LAMB was forty-years-old last January, born at Caladonia (sic, should be Caledonia), Iowa Jan. 22, 1879 [the son of Joseph Talkington and Barbara Ellen (SYLVESTER) LAMB]. Not an old man, but in the prime of life. He leaves three brothers, John of Peterson, Iowa, Jess of Nebraska, and Chas. of Castaua, Ia.; four sisters, Mary BURNETT, Onawa, Mrs. Fred CHAPMAN, Blencoe Cora YOUNG of Winslow, Arizona and Mrs. Martha MOORE of Trenton, Mo. Emma THOMPSON, of Kellerton, Iowa, passed away only a week agoin a hospital at Iowa City.

Mrs. David [Eva (MARSHALL)] LAMB was thirty-seven on the last day of March, 1919. She leaves a mother and one sister, Mrs. Frank TAYLOR. She was a good mother "One good mother is worth a hundred school masters. The Mother is the central sun of the home. She adds stability and character to the home. The mothers are mightier than armies, schools and legislatures in shaping the destinies of the nation."

Mr. and Mrs. LAMB were the parents of four children, three girls and one boy, all of whom survive them. Lucile 14, Ellen 11, Bernard 13 and Anabel 7. They were married at Onawa, March 4 1902, sixteen years ago and have a host of friends in this community as they have always lived in this vicinity. They were one in life and one in death. How sad it is that both parents had to be taken when the children needed them so badly.

Miss Winifred MARSHALL, daughter of Mrs. Josie MARSHALL, formerly of Onawa, but now of Bonesteel, S.D., was born April the 5th, 1887, and died in St. Joseph's hospital in Sioux City July the 3rd, 1919. Miss MARSHALL made her home at Bonesteel, S. D., but had been teaching the Beetle school some three miles south west of Onawa, closing the term just a few hours before her death. She was a brilliant young woman and her womanly grace and beauty of character won the respect and love of all who knew her.

We are recording the passing of three of earth's pilgrams. It only reminds us that life is uncertain and that death is sure. In passing they leave to us the heritage of lives that were clean. As we thinkg of them, we think not of the cruel, the selfish, or the profane. It is no werck of manhood or womanhood that looms upbefore us as we review their past. We claim perfection for no human. It would not be the wish of these to have it so - their loved ones rise up today and call them blessed.

NOTE: Lucile (LAMB) KRUSE was born in 1905, Onawa, Iowa. Bernard David LAMB was born May 6, 1906, Onawa, and died February 16, 1989, Tacoma, Washington, aged 82 years. He was survived by his wife Alfie and son David LAMB of Tacoma, and sisters Lucile KRUSE of Omaha, Nebraska, and Annabelle (LAMB) BEEDLE of Onawa, Iowa. Ellen Winifred LAMB was born in Onawa February 12, 1908, and died at Glenwood, Iowa on December 3, 1928, aged 20 years.
