OBITUARY - RAYMOND EUGENE MONAHAN

Raymond Eugene MONAHAN passed away in peace on Oct. 18, 2010 at the Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, CO. He was 77.

He was born March 21, 1933 in Diagonal, Iowa and lived in Iowa until he was 14 years old. His family then moved to Grand Junction. He graduated from Central High School and still has many friends from his graduating class.

After graduation, he served 4 years in the U.S. Navy and spent most of his time on an aircraft carrier off of the Korean coast. He was released in 1955 and started his academic career at Mesa College.

On Aug. 4, 1962, he married Diane Kay WAGNER in Alamosa, CO. The couple moved to Denver and he started classes at the C.U. extension in Denver.

Son John was born in 1964 and Mark followed in 1967. Ray graduated from C.U. in 1966. He immediately started studying for the CPA exam in between working and baby-sitting while Diane finished her schooling. He passed the CPA exam in 1968.

The family moved to Glenwood Springs, CO in 1969 and Ray started his CPA practice. Over the years the firm expanded to Monahan, Lampman and Hays. Ray retired in 1998 and moved back to Grand Junction with Diane.

Ray enjoyed raising his family and spending time with his two grandchildren. He loved to go sailing with his family off the coast of San Diego and later Ventura, CA.

He enjoyed playing golf at Bookcliff Country Club for several years until he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) in 2004.

Ray was preceded in death by his mother Irene, father Ray G., younger brother Richard (Bill) and older sister Pat.

He is survived by his wife Diane; sons John (Lauren) of Denver and Mark (Katie) of Calabasas, CA., sister Mary BAHDE of Denver and grandchildren Jake and Kiley of Calabasas, CA.

A memorial service will be held at Callahan Edfast Mortuary on Oct. 23, 2010 at 10 a.m.

Donations may be made in Ray's name to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Western Colorado, 3090 N 12th Street, Unit B, Grand Junction, CO 81506.

We will miss you forever, Ray.
