OBITUARY - OKLIN "LYLE" NORRIS

Oklin "Lyle" NORRIS was born May 31, 1915 in Ringgold County, Iowa, one of three children to Clyde and Harla (MURPHY) NORRIS. He passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Thornton, Colorado at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 22 days.

Lyle grew up and attended school in Redding and Blockton, Iowa. He graduated from Blockton High School. On March 10, 1937 he was united in marriage to Verle "Maxine" WHITE. This union was blessed with three children.

He farmed around Elliott for many years. After retiring from farming, the family moved into Elliott where he drove a stock truck for LeRoy BAKER Trucking. He gave up trucking due to back problems and started another career as hog buyer and operator of the Elliott Hog Market and later HyGrade Hog Market until his retirement. Retirement was not for him so he took a job working for the town of Elliott. He mowed around town and maintained the cemeteries. His last job was maintaining the Pilot Grove Park which he loved so much. He finally retired in 2003 at the age of 88.

On October 13, 2004, he and his wife Maxine moved to Thornton, Colorado. The remainder of his life was surrounded by his daughter, son-in-law and many grandchildren. He was deeply devoted to his family and to a host of relatives and friends. He had a keen sense of humor and seldom met a person that he didn't visit with. Family members can relate that you could often find him "around a corner" someplace visiting with someone whether he was on the east or west coast or many places in between.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maxine COLEMAN; a brother, Vivian "Dick" NORRIS; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul STEPHENS, Calvin COLEMAN, Linda FOOTE, Wilbur and Lorraine WENDT, Lowell McCUNN, Robert WHITE, Ruth SCHEEL, and Leo WHITE; and a daughter, Anna Mae KEAST.

Lyle is survived by those thankful to have shared in his life, his wife of 72 years, Maxine NORRIS of Thornton, Colorado; children, Frank NORRIS and his wife Lena of Sheffield, Iowa, Janet GINTHER and her husband Gene of Thornton, Colorado; son-in-law, Darrell KEAST of Apache Junction, Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Elliott United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry McCLAIN officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 – 8 PM Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa.
