OBITUARY - JOHN J. PRIEST

July 3, 1920 - October 16, 2010

John went home to be with his Lord at the age of 90. He passed peacefully on Saturday after struggling with cancer. He was born in a small farming community near Kellerton, Iowa. He married Esther Jean BRONSON of Decatur, Iowa in 1942. He became a teacher in the 1940's and later became Superintendent of Schools in Arthur, IA.

He served with honor in the U.S. Army in WW II, was captured by the Germans and held as a POW from January, 1945, until the end of the war.

Moving to Tucson in 1953, he was a much loved and respected teacher and counselor in the TUSD community for over 30 years. He built his own home in the 1960's, which is still occupied by family members. He was a patient and spiritual man who led by example.

A loving father, mentor and role model will be greatly missed by surviving son, Larry PRIEST (Geri) and daughter, Marcia HOENLE (Bernie); five grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.

Services will be held at East Lawn Palms Mortuary Chapel, 5801 E. Grant Rd. at 1:00 p.m.
