OBITUARY - JOHNNY EDWARD JENSEN

Johnny E. JENSEN, 77, of Atlantic, passed away at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010.

Johnny Edward JENSEN was born March 24, 1933, the son of Axel M. and Viva (ALLEN) JENSEN in Kellerton. He attended school at Pleasant Hill grade school and graduated from the Leon High School in 1951.

Johnny served in the United States Army in Germany, held the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1955.

On July 17, 1955, he married Doris FRIES at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic.

Johnny was employed with Graham's Department Store, Walnut Grove and the Des Moines Register for 26 years before retiring. He was a member of the Pymosa Lodge #271, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star and was a Rainbow Dad. Doris and Johnny spent many hours boating and he enjoyed outdoor activities.

He is survived by his wife, Doris of 55 years; son, Scott (Melissa) JENSEN of Boise, Idaho; daughters, Jacque JENSEN of Sioux City, and Susan JENSEN of Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren; Dane, Danika and Derik JENSEN of Boise, Idaho, and Jase DelReal JENSEN of Witchita, Kan.; a great-granddaughter, Acacai JENSEN of Boise, Idaho; sister, Mary Lou (Joel) FREEMAN of Grundy Center; brothers, Bill (Evelyn) JENSEN of Leon, Dennis (Margaret) JENSEN of Des Moines; brother-in-law, Raymond DeVORE of Oskaloosa; sister-in-law, Doris JENSEN of Beaverton, Ore.; sister-in-law, Betty (John) OEHLERTZ of Avoca; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dean; sister, Leora DeVORE; and parents-in-law, Annette and Herman FRIES.

Visitation with family will be from 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 12 at Hockenberry Family Care, Atlantic. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 13 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic.

Following cremation, Johnny's ashes will be buried in the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date. Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.hockenberryfamilycare.com.
