BOY DIES WHILE HELPING DAD CUT TREE

A teenager from southwest Iowa died in a weekend farming accident. Floyd PLANK of Ringgold County called 9-1-1 to say the tree that he had been sawing fell on his son. Fifteen-year-old Amos PLANK was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Mount Ayr, then flown by helicopter to a hospital in Des Moines.

The boy died later Saturday from his injuries. The accident happened in a rural area on land that PLANK rents. Floyd PLANK, who lives outside of Mount Ayr, is on the list of Iowa organic fruit and vegetable growers.
