OBITUARY - DR. EARL E. LUTZ

Bloomington, IL — Dr. Earl E. LUTZ, 94, Bloomington, died at 3:03 a.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Heritage Manor, Normal. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lutz Endowment Fund at U of I Veterinary Medicine or to the Centennial Christian Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Earl was born March 14, 1914, at Kellerton, Iowa, the son of Charles B. and Effie (HOLMES) LUTZ. He married Nola MASSIE on Dec. 29, 1937 in Kahoka, MO. She died April 23, 2001.

He received the Army rank of lieutenant colonel in the 104th Timberwolves. He received a Purple Heart for his service at the Battle of the Bulge. After his military service, he returned to pre-vet at the U of I. While in vet school, he was instrumental in the formation of the U of I College of Veterinary Medicine.

Earl was a member of Heart of Illinois Beekeeper's Association for many years and President for two terms.
