Tuesday, April 7, 2009OBITUARY - TED HIGHTSHOE Jr.
Ted HIGHTSHOE Jr., 75, of Mount Ayr, formerly of Tingley and Creston, died April 4, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The Rev. Michael MADDY will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr. Open visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
OBITUARY - TED HIGHTSHOE Jr.
Theodore HIGHTSHOE, Jr., son of Theodore, Sr. & Bertha Mae (MAGGARD) HIGHTSHOE, was born January 17, 1934 in Decatur County, Iowa.
Ted attended country school until age 10 when before entering Mount Ayr Community Schools. He graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1952. Ted enlisted in and served his country in the US Army during the Korean War from 1954-1956. After returning home in 1957, Ted married Twila FLETCHALL on January 25, 1957 at the Baptist Church in Grant City, MO. To this union four children were born. Ted and Twila farmed south of Mount Ayr from 1957 to 1966. Ted then worked as a telephone engineer for a few years. After this he took a job with Heritage Communications in Creston for several years, retiring in 1991. After retiring, Ted had a landscaping business that he enjoyed running. He liked to dabble in antiques and marbles. Ted & Twila lived several years in Creston before moving to Tingley, Iowa three years ago. They had just recently moved to Mount Ayr. On April 4, 2009, Ted passed away at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa as a result of a stroke.
Ted was preceded in death by his father, Ted HIGHTSHOE, Sr.; mother Bertha HIGHTSHOE; and a brother Chris HIGHTSHOE.
Survivors include his wife Twila of Mount Ayr; children Kim HOEPKER & husband Don of Orient, IA, Jon HIGHTSHOE of Tingley, Julie BACON & husband Daryl of Altoona, IA, and Jodi HIGHTSHOE of Leon, IA; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers David HIGHTSHOE & wife Shirley of Mt. Ayr and Ed HIGHTSHOE & wife Gay of Polk City, IA; two sisters Theola WEEDA of Mt. Ayr and Donna EASON & husband Skip of Waukee, IA; a sister-in-law Myrtle HIGHTSHOE of Shirley, Arkansas; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe Street, Mount Ayr, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided later.
