OBITUARY.

Death claimed two of Ringgold county's best citizens during the past week. L. A. SIPLE, of the firm of Whitson & Siple and who has had the management of the north side meat market during the past two years was stricken at his home in east Mount Ayr on Thanksgiving day a few minutes before five o'clock p.m. He had been preparing to come uptown and had difficulty in getting his car out of the garage. Physical exertion incident to getting out the car exhausted his strength and he went to the house, expecting to take a short rest before going to the store, but within a few seconds after he entered the house life passed out. A physician was summoned and responded immediately. Death was due to heart disease with which Mr. SIPLE has suffered for some time.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock at the home, being conducted by Rev. E. S. MENOHER, pastor of the Methodist church, and interment was in the cemetery at Hopeville [Clarke County, Iowa]. Lewis Albert SIPLE, son of Charles Albert and Ann Eliza SIPLE, was born on a farm in Clarke county, Iowa, July 1, 1874, and died at his home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, November 30, 1928, aged 54 years, four months and 29 days.

When he was eleven years of age his mother died and two years later the family, consisting of the father and five children - three sons and two daughters - moved to Mount Ayr. After a few years' residence in Mount Ayr the family moved to a farm near Beaconsfield and later to the town of Beaconsfield. When he was nearing manhood's estate the family moved to Hopeville and a short time later he accepted a position in a store at Thayer, where the foundation was laid for a successful business career. After his marriage to Miss Bessie SMITH, of Hopeville, he engaged in the hardware business in Thayer, which busines he successfully conducted for a number of years, or until 1911, when opportunity was presented to engage in business with his brother-in-law, B. W. WHITSON, and he moved with his family to Kellerton. Later the firm engaged in the mercantile business in Ellston, where Mr. SIPLE had charge of the business. Two years ago the firm of Whitson & Siple purchased the E. A. SALTZMAN meat market and Mr. SIPLE moved with his family to Mount Ayr, where he resided until his death.

Mr. SIPLE is survived by his wife and two daughters - Louise, wife of Leslie BALLOU, and Lucile, aged 10; one grandchild, the little 5-months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie BALLOU of Hopeville; two brothers, W. H. SIPLE of Mount Ayr and L. S. SIPLE of Los Angeles, Calif. His father and two sisters, Mrs. B. W. WHITSON, and Emma Fay, preceded him in death.

The death of Mr. SIPLE marks the passing of one of Mount Ayr's best citizens. He was a kind and devoted husband and father; a loyal citizen; a good neighbor. He was possessed of a happy disposition and his presence radiated gladness. In his business dealings he was fair and honest. His life was an exemplification of the golden rule.

NOTE: Louis' wife Bessie V. (SMITH) was born on May 25, 1882, the daughter of Samuel M. SMITH and Mary Louise "Mollie" (BURHAM) SMITH. Bessie died in 1956 with interment beside her husband, Hopeville Cemetery, Clarke County, Iowa.
