OBITUARY - DEAN SHIELDS

Dean SHIELDS, 80, of Mount Ayr died June 10, 2005, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The Rev. Edward SHIELDS will officiate the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr. Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Mount Ayr. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mr. SHIELDS, son of Ida Melissa (TRIGGS) and Willie Vern SHIELDS, was born December 26, 1924, near Watterson in Ringgold County. On Oct. 7, 1946, he married Edna L. WICKER. On May 10, 1987, he married Dora-Ann (SMITH) SHELDON in Lamoni. He was a farmer and sold Trojan seed corn five years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion Ringgold Post No. 172 in Mount Ayr. He served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 15, 1944, to Nov. 24, 1946.

Survivors include his wife, Dora-Ann SHIELDS of Mount Ayr; three daughters, Phyllis KIMBALL (special friend Dennis PYLAND) of Creston, Barb (husband Oscar) VAAL and Jayla (husband Kevin) SHELLMAN, all of Mount Ayr; and five grandsons, J.R. MACKEY, J. D. MACKEY, Jim MACKEY, Noah SHELLMAN and Seth SHELLMAN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife April 26, 1974; grandson Robert Forrest MACKEY; and four siblings, Mary Ruth TAGGART, Vera Belle HACKER, William John SHIELDS and Mildred Irene WION.
