OBITUARY.
Wm. NICKLES was born in Miffin county, Penn., Feb. 13, 1813, and moved to Ringgold county in 1855. Since that time he has been a citizen in the vicinity of Maloy and Benton. He joined the church and gave his heart to God about 1873. Since that time he has been a faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and a lover of the church and God's people and on almost every occasion that we heard him speak, he adminished the young man not to do as he had done, and put off his return to God until so late an hour. It seemed to be the only regret of his life. He passed off very easily and without a struggle, pointing upward and whispering, "home, home." He had fought the good fight, he had kept the faith and has now gone home to his reward. As a shock of full ripe corn he was gathered home. He lived to the good old age of 80 years, 4 months and 21 days died July 4th, 1893. Such is life. Some are lying on beds of affliction and pain and some dying while others are enjoying the pleasures and comforts of life. A short scriptural lesson was read and a few words of love and exortation were said by Rev. THARP of Benton, one of his old neighbors to a very large and intelligent congregation, mostly of the gray haired people, Sister ZIKES lending a helping hand in singing and prayer. The services were held in the Baptist church at Maloy, the choir being mostly from Benton. Brother S. WALLACE as leader, after which we laid his body to rest in the Shay [Platte River] cemetery. May the blessing of God rest on his aged companion and family with the love and friendship of their neighbors. -H. THARP
