OBITUARY - C. D. NICKLES.

Chas. Dean NICKLES, son of William and Lucy Jane NICKLES, was born September 22, 1871, near Maloy, Iowa, and died at his home near Benton September 22, 1933, at the age of 62 years to the day.

He was reared on a farm near Maloy, Iowa, until the age of nine years, then moved to the farm northwest of Benton, later moving to his present home where he has resided for the past twenty-eight years. Throughout his many years engaged in farming and business affairs he commanded the confidence of the people of the community and his cheerful and happy disposition won him many friends. He was a kind loving husband and father, always ready to do a deed.

On May 5, 1897, he was united in marriage to Miss Florence BARKER, daughter of W. G. and Angeline BARKER. To this union were born two children, Chester Rollo, who died in infancy, and Lela Merle NYE, of Dunkerton, Iowa.

His wife, Florence, departed this life November 16, 1901.

He was later married to Ida May FULLER on October 27, 1903, and to this union were born three children - Howard E. at home, Ethel FLETCHALL and Edith GUNTER of Benton.

In 1896 he joined the Christian church of which he was a member at the time of his death.

Besides his four children named above he leaves his faithful wife, Ida May; one brother, John D. of David City, Neb.; and two sisters, Belle FINLEY of Houston, Texas, and Ella DICKINSON of Anaheim, Calif., and three grandchildren, Lucille, Annetta and Edith NYE, of Dunkerton, Iowa, and many other dear relatives and friends.

The funeral was held from the Christian church at Benton Sunday at 2 p.m., conducted by T. S. RHOADES. Burial was made west of Maloy [at Platte River Cemetery].

Home is not home for father's not there;
Angels have taken him out of our care;
Dark is his room and empty his chair,
He is gone to that home, so peaceful and fair.
Gone, and the seasons to come and to go,
Wreathing his grave in blossoms and snow;
Snow on the bosom that sheltered us so,
Cruel and cold as the bleak winds that blow.
Sleep, father, sleep, thy toils are all o'er,
Sweet be thy rest, so oft needed before;
Well have we loved you, but God loved you more,
He's called you away to that bright happy shore.

NOTE: Florence (BARKER), Charles Dean NICKLES' first wife, was born in 1878 and died in 1901 with interment at Platte River Cemetery. Chester Rollo, son of Florence (BARKER) and Charles Dean NICKLES, was born in 1897, and died at the age of six months and eleven days on April 11, 1898, with interment at Platte River Cemetery.
