OBITURARY - ESTHER PARKER
Esther Velma (SAVILLE) PARKER was born November 27th 1913, the eldest of six children to Zula Alma (DENNEY) SAVILLE and James Bernard SAVILLE. Esther was born on her grandparent SAVILLE's farm five miles east of Redding known as the Old BELAMY place.
Esther lived all her young life between Redding and Mount Ayr, she attended a country school in Middle Fork Township known as Rose Hill. The same school her father went to when he was a young boy. All of Esther’s brothers and sisters also attended this school. In the fall of 1929 Esther started as a freshman in the Mount Ayr high school and took the normal training course under Mrs. BLISS to become a teacher. She graduated in 1932 and taught for 3 years in the country school in Washington Township in Ringgold county.
She was raised in the Methodist faith going to the Middle Fork Methodist Church in Middle Fork Township. The same church her Grandfather SAVILLE attended at an earlier time being a Charter member and supply minister.
On April 16,1937, Esther was united in marriage to Frank PARKER at the Tingley Methodist Church Parsonage. This was a double wedding with her sister Lavene and Frank's brother Oliver getting married also. They started married life on a farm near Sharpsburg in Taylor county for 4 years,then moved to a farm south east of Clearfield and later to a farm north west of Shannon City. To this union six children were born, Dale, Helen, Marjorie, Doyle, Joyce and Darrell. Esther and Frank were married for 66 years.
Esther worked side by side in the fields with her husband on their farm. She made family scrapbooks for each of her children and enjoyed reading about genealogy of her family, and did this until her health failed her.
Esther passed away on January 21, 2009 while a resident of Hospice House in Creston, Iowa.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 2003; son Darrell at the age of three; her parents Alma and Bernard SAVILLE; sister Bernadine PLATT and her husband Denzel; sister Lavene PARKER; brother Elvin SAVILLE and his wife May.
Left to mourn are two sons; Dale and wife Kathy of Holt, Missouri; Doyle PARKER and companion Lily RIPPERGER of Shannon City Iowa; three daughters Helen GUTT and husband Tom of Liberty, Missouri; Marjorie SCHERRUEBLE and husband Rich of Aurora Illinois; Joyce MANSHIP and husband Stan of N. Richland Hills, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 1 ; sister Ruth SAVILLE of Mount Ayr Iowa, and a brother Clyde SAVILLE and wife Delores of Illinois, and many other relatives and friends.
Services Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 1:30 p.m., Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa. Interment at Redding Cemetery. Memorials to Redding Cemetery and the Tingley Meal Site.
