The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1932

DEATH of MRS. GRUBB.

Julia Ann COHOON was born near Joliet, Il., December 24, 1851, and peacefully departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter STACY, December 15, 1932. Had she lived until Christmas she would have been 81 years old. She was left motherless at the age of two years and grew to womanhood near the place where she was born. On December 3, 1868, she was united in marriage to Frederick COOK, who came to his death in June, 1872, by drowning in the Mississippi river. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Minnie ANDREWS of Creston and William [COOK] of Mount Ayr.

On February 13, 1873, she was again united in marriage to Jesse T. GRUBB, who preceded her in death December 4, 1905. They came to Iowa in 1878 and located on a farm in Liberty township. They were the parents of eight children -- two sons and six daughters, Mrs. Eva STACY, Mrs. Lucy MOSIER and Andrew [GRUBB] of Mount Ayr, Mrs. Mattie CORNMAN, Mrs. Ida ARMSTRONG, Mrs. Verna LONG, Mrs. Mamie SMITH and Daniel [GRUBB], all of Wenatchee, Wash.

Grandma GRUBB, as she was best know, has been a patient sufferer for years, being well cared for by her children, who were all at her beside when the end came except those who are in Washington.

Early in life she was converted and united with the United Brethren Church. After the death of her husband she moved to Mount Ayr, where she united with the First Baptist church and has remained a faithful member since.

She leaves to mourn her departure her ten children, 40 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, one brother, David COHOON, and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth WIRES and Mrs. D. McCARTY, of Villisca, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. HOOKS. Interment was at the Oliver cemetery beside her husband [near Ellston, Ringgold County, Iowa].
