OBITUARY - MRS. ELIZABETH GARARD.

Miss Elizabeth HARTLEY, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth HARTLEY, was born in Greene county, Pennsylvania, March 7, 1842, and died at the home of her son, Samuel GARARD, on Friday, February 12, 1932, at the age of 89 years, 11 months and five days. Her girlhood days were spent with her parents in Pennsylvania.

In Spetember, 1862, she was united in marriage to William D. GARARD and to this union seven children were born - Louisa and Elick, who died in infancy, and James and Joseph T., who also preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lenora BOWEN and Mrs. R. B. STEELE, and one son, Samuel, with whom she made her home.

Mr. and Mrs. GARARD established their home in Mapletown, Pa., they then moved to Ringgold county settling in Delphi, which is now Maloy. She being the last of these early settlers. Here in this community they reared their family and lived happily together until his death in April, 1906. Since his death, she has lived on the old home place, one mile south of Maloy.

Mrs. GARARD was a loving mother. Not only thinking of her own children, but of her grand children, James BOWEN, who she mothered and loved as much as her own children. She joined the Baptist church before moving from Pennsylvania and since that time has been very faithful to her Creator, as shown in the beautiful life that she has lived. She is the last survivor of 13 children.

For the past four years she has been in very poor health and has been given constant attention and care by her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. GARARD. She leaves to mourn her death three children, ten grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Maloy Sunday, February 14, at eleven a.m. conducted by T. S. RHOADES, of Mount Ayr, and interment made in the Shay cemetery.
