OBITUARY - MRS. DAVIS

Mrs. DAVIS, who had been sick for several weeks, died in her 43d year at the house of Mr. IMUS, on Thursday the 6th, p.m. The funeral was conducted by Rev. E. P. WOOD at the house on Saturday at half-past 4 o'clock p.m. The remains were interred in the south cemetery (Rose Hill?). A brother, Mr. BEARD and a brother-in-law, Mr. COCHRAN, came from east of Ottumwa and on Monday they took the seven children with them, on their return to provide homes for them among their relatives. Mrs. DAVIS's sickness was distressingly painful. She bore her sufferings with great fortitude and patience. But, in her last moments, God kindly closed her life peacefully, without a struggle; so that she breathed quietly away. She recognized her friends to within a few minutes of her death, and although she could not speak, she answered inquiries by a motion of the head. She did succeed in calling her children by name and clasped their hands. She was very successful as a mother in training her children. It was her constant thought and care, that they should grow up to be industrious, honorable and usefull citizens. She told them so, when she thought she was going to die three weeks ago.
