OBITUARY - M. V. DAVIS

M[artin]. V. DAVIS was born in Clinton county, Ohio, July 17, 1835, and died Monday, November 29, 1897, being 62 years, three months and twenty days old. When fifteen years of age he removed to Lafayette, Ind., where he resided until he reached maturity. He was married December 4, 1861 to Miss Sarah J. ARMSTRONG, and to this union have been born five children: Orville V., Georgn N., John W. who died several years ago, Charles E. and Daisy Snowflake. Mr. DAVIS enlisted during the [Civil] war in company C, 72nd Indiana Infantry, serving throughout the war, and was honorably discharged July 6, 1865. He removed to Jasper county, Iowa, in 1866, residing there until 1871, when he came to Athens township in this county. He owned a fine farm of 420 acres, but of late resided in Kellerton where he was engaged in the hardware business.

Mr. DAVIS had been failing in health for over a year, and his business was placed in the hands of his son-in-law O. B. OVERHOLSER. In search of health he went to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where he received no benefit. His mind gave way and he was placed in the asylum at Clarinda where his death occurred. The funeral was held Wednesday at Kellerton and was largely attended. [Interment at Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton, Ringgold County, Iowa].
