Funeral services planned for Friday for local man
Charles D. Brown, a well known and longtime resident of Griswold, passed away this Wednesday morning at about 6:20 a.m. Mr. Brown’s passing came at his home where he had been confined to his bed for some time and seriously ill the past few days. Charles D. Brown was the son of John N. and Martha Ann Johnston Brown and was born at Republican City, Nebraska, on December 21, 1880. At his passing in Griswold, Iowa, he had attained the age of 73 years, 5 months and 5 days. Mr. Brown came to this community with his parents at an early age and grew to manhood here. He was united in marriage to Mary Peebles near Griswold on December 25, 1901. Mr. and Mrs. Brown have spent their entire married life in this community and had the privilege of observing their golden wedding anniversary in 1951. Mr. Brown was a member of the Church of Christ of this city and took an active part in that congregation. He also served his church as custodian for many years.
Left to mourn his passing are his widow and one son, Dorwin, at home; and one sister, Mrs. May Willett of Long Beach, California. Also surviving are two grandchildren, David and Pamela Brown of Griswold; besides numerous other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Cecil, who gave his life in World War II, being killed in action in 1945.
Funeral services have been planned for Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.. The services have been planned for Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. The services will be from the Church of Christ in Griswold, with Rev. Ronald Cochran officiating. Interment will be in the Griswold Cemetery. The Wagler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
