Mrs. Emma Stearns
Surprised on Eight-third Birthday

Sunday, Mrs. Emma Stearns, mother of postmaster, Daisy Oldham, celebrated her eight=third birthday at her home on the south side.

Mrs. Stearn’s daughter, Miss Daisy Stearns, assisted by Mrs. Bessie Gustafsen decided the day should be a red letter day for Mrs. Stearns. They prepared a nice lunch for the occasion and invited in eight of Mrs. Stearns’s close friends and neighbors. Early in the afternoon the ladies began to arrive. First was Mrs. Susan Sarvis, age 84, who called to congratulate Mrs. Stearns. Shortly the guest began to arrive and it did not take Mrs. Stearns long to decide someone had been talking out of school, as all had a well prepared story for the occasion.

The afternoon was spent in almost enjoyable manner. Luncheon was served about five o’clock after which all wished Mrs. Stearns many happy returns of the day.

Mrs. Stearns has been confined to her home for the past two years; most of the time not being able to walk without assistance. The past six months she has improved wonderfully and gets about her home unassisted and is feeling much better. This birthday surprise by her old friends makes life happier and worth living.

Those present were: Mrs. Susan Sarvis, Mrs. Jack Cook, Mrs. Ella Zimmerman, Mrs. Josephine Gross, Mrs. Tillie Donaldson, Mrs. Emma Lintz, Mrs. Emma Tiessen, and Mrs. Dan Gustafsen
