Golden Wedding Anniversary (circa 1930)With nine of their ten children, and a host of friends present, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Leaders, pioneer Pottawattamie county residents, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Monday, February 17, at their home, 329 Story Street. Visitors were received throughout the day.
Mr. Leaders, who is 77, was born in Germany and came to the United States when he was 17 years old. From New York he went to Illinois, where he remained for a short time. Then he settled at what is now Minden, Iowa, in 1878. He was one of the first settlers near Minden and remained on his farm near that town for forty-nine years.
Mrs. Leaders was born in New York and is 67 years old.
They have been residents of Council Bluffs since 1927.
Sons and daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Leaders who were present at the celebration are: Mrs. William Matthiesen and family, Mule Shoe, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Leaders and family of Neola, Iowa; Mrs. Bertha Leaders and family of Minden; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Leaders and family of Minden; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wedel and family of Minden; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kay and daughter of Hancock; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Leaders and family of Minden; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Leaders of Deloit, Iowa; and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Leaders of Minden.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Franz and family of Avoca were unable to attend because of scarlet fever quarantine. Mrs. Franz was the only one of their ten children who was not present.
Twenty-four grandchildren were present at the celebration.
Friends who were the guests of the Leaders for the day include Rev. and Mrs. F. W. Wendland, pastor of the Salem Evangelical church; Mr. and Mrs. John Wulff, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Eckert, George Bintz and Mrs. Minnie Gutschlag all of Council Bluffs. Mrs. Julia Wedel of Minden and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Eberhart of Avoca; Calvin Mauer of Minden, brother of Mrs. Leaders was also present.
Rev J. Oschenbenner, who married the couple at Silver Creek fifty years ago, is living in California and was unable to attend the anniversary.
This was also the wedding anniversary of three of three of their children: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Franz of Avoca fifteenth; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kay’s tenth, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Leaders, third.
