help re: melissa f keeney and james/jay m hayes; m 2-17-1877

anyone know anything about melissa f. keeney married james m hayes (j. m hayes); lived at 1017 w. wiley in des moines, and there was in the atlas an edward w. hayes listed there as well. jm and ew were both lawyers. think j m died about 1890 or 1891. shortly after his death, melissa left with her 4 children for carbondale near her sister living there. james has become someone i want to locate-born abt 1851 new york; his father was born in ireland.
melissa and james/jay married 2-17-1877 in avon, and moved to wakeeney, trego co ks, a town melissa's brother co-founded...they later returned to des moines, after 1880, where james/jay did lawyer work; he died about 1890-1891--whereafter melissa left for il. any help would be appreciated.
