Barb,
I corresponded with you several years ago. My Dad was Capt Donald V. Miller and was Carl's flight leader on Feb 14, 1944 when Dad and Carl were shot down. Fortunately Dad survived the aerial engagement, but bailed out and also survived over 14 months as a POW of the Japanese. Recently I ran across something I had seen while visiting another pilot (Craig Jackson)from Carl and my Dad's outfit who was also flying that day. I tried to get a copy of it over the years from Craig to no avail. Apparently Craig must have died and thsi dollar bill (called a short snorter) was sold on the internet. I just happen to run across it while doing a blind search on either the 1st Air commando Group or perhaps on Carl, I can't remember. Anyway, my Dad signed the dollar bill, and I think that you and any other of Carl's relatives would be interested in the link in the window below.
If the link does not work, just 'Google': Carl Hartzer short snorter.
Also, I can't remember if I offered a copy of Dad's orders to go to the 1 Air Commando Group. Carl and his friend Gilhousen are also on these ordersIf you would send me your e-mail I will be glad to send it along. Also, could you let me know you received this message? And, can you pass along this link to Clarice Lowe and Richard Hibbert. I seemed to have lost all of your e-mail addresses, which is why I used this venue to get in touch.
Best regards,
Jim Miller
