Reverend Adolph W. Phillips, 98, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 at 2:50 a.m. at Parkridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in the care of staff and Care Initiatives Hospice. He was born September 21, 1913 in a cabin in Diggens, Missouri. Adolph graduated from Open Bible Institute in 1947 and pastored at Four Mile Open Bible, Norwoodville Open Bible and Winfield Open Bible in Winfield, Iowa. He also worked at John Deere Des Moines Works until his retirement in 1976.
Adolph is survived by his loving wife of 77 years, Mary Lea; children, Delano (Darlene) of Des Moines, Wilma Pack (Arie) of Pleasant Hill, Dennis (Rhonda) of Peru, Iowa and Marsha Peters (Craig) of Altoona; twelve grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine Phillips; seven brothers; four sisters; and five week old baby daughter, Doris Rae.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at New Hope Assembly of God Church, 6800 Townsend Avenue, followed by burial at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
