John was born July 18, 1923 in Des Moines to Julia (Reardon) and Gaston Doyle. He attended East High School, served in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the U.S.S. Key West in the Pacific Theater in WWII, and worked for Meredith Publishing Co. for 35 years, where he met his devoted wife of 64 years, Mary Lee (Wright) Doyle. He enjoyed spending time on his land in Winterset, near Hogback Bridge. His favorite saying was, 'Nobody's perfect."
He was preceded in death by his parent; siblings; and oldest son, Tim Doyle. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Davenport; and sons, Kevin (Barb) Doyle, Danny (David) Doyle; daughter-in-law, Barb Doyle; grandsons, Tim (Heather), James, and Kelly (Mindy) Doyle, Micheal Davenport; and great-grandsons, Kyle and Devin Doyle. He was lovingly cared for and attended to by his daughter for the last three years of his life. His family will miss his honesty, humor, warm smile and sparkling Irish eyes.
