Smith, Ora “Sid” – d. 2011

Ora "Sid" Smith, 75, of Des Moines, devoted husband of Nancy (McClintic) Smith for 55 years, was welcomed by the arms of the Lord on November 26, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Iles Funeral Homes - Grandview Park Chapel. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m Wednesday at the funeral home.
Sid was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Cora (Watkins) Smith; step-mother, Marie Blank; his brother, Paul; and great-grandson, Donald Gene Killen, Jr.
Sid is survived by a very large and loving family: his wife, Nancy; brother, Dick Smith and sister-in-law, Jody of Mercer, Missouri; sons, Sid Smith (Paula Lincoln) of Des Moines, Matthew Smith and daughter-in-law, Kathy of Norwalk, Iowa; daughter, Terri (Smith) Killen and son-in-law, Don of Des Moines; and son, Patrick Smith and daughter-in-law, Wendy of Milo, Iowa. He also is survived by ten loving grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Sid's life was blessed by the love of his family and many friends. He was an over-the-road truck driver for Crete Carrier and an employee of Waldinger Corporation, retiring at the age of 65. Sid enjoyed fishing, camping with his wife, Nancy (his best friend), and sidewalk golf with his sons. He was the world's greatest mushroom hunter.
