Harold Raymond Nordquist, age 87, a resident at Fairmeadows Village in West Des Moines, IA, formerly of Albia, died Thursday, November 24, 2011, at The Village at Legacy Point in Waukee.
Harold was born August 27, 1924, in Gardena, CA, to Carl and Anna (Ahlberg) Nordquist. He married Ruth Shelquist on January 27, 1946, at her parents' home in Albia.
Harold was a World War II veteran, having served 3½ years in the US Navy. After his discharge he was a baker before working for the US Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1979.
Harold is survived by his three daughters, Nancy (Bob) Sturtevant of Ft. Collins, CO (currently serving in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia), Karen (Gary) Edgington of West Des Moines, IA, and Connie (Darrel) Hohn of Colleyville, TX. Eight grandchildren: David (Heather) Lucas, Carl (Janelle) Lucas, Kari (Eric) Coleman, Kristi (Will) Petersen, Ryan (Lindsay) Edgington, Justin Edgington, Nathan Hohn, Aaron Hohn, and nine great grandchildren: Karli Lucas, Kyle Lucas, Noah Coleman, Nicholas Coleman, Cameron Fabritz, Annabelle Petersen, Elizabeth Petersen, Avery Edgington, and Isabella Hohn survive Harold. One sister-in-law, Helen Anderson of Bonita Springs, FL, also survives.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2006, his parents, and one brother, Stanley. A memorial service with military rites at Oakview Cemetery in Albia will be held in the spring.
