Susan B. Aldrich, 77, passed away Friday, December 9, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family, after suffering a heart attack.
Susan was born in Centerville, Iowa, on April 3, 1934, to C.L. and Lucile Bruckshaw. She is survived by her husband Jerry of Des Moines, children Lisa (Brad) Brissey of Dubuque and Eric (Susan) Hixenbaugh of Bettendorf, granddaughters Ashlyn and Amanda Brissey of Dubuque, brother John (Susan) Bruckshaw of West Des Moines, and ex-husband and friend Gale D. Hixenbaugh of Dubuque. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Susan graduated from Centerville High School in 1952. She attended Southeast Missouri State and graduated with a degree in education from Buena Vista University. She substitute taught in the Des Moines school system and retired from the International P.E.O. office in 2004. Susan was a gentle, loving, and compassionate woman who always put others first. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and she will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held Tuesday at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 2500 University Ave., Des Moines, beginning at 9 a.m.. Services will follow visitation at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Waukee Cemetery following a luncheon at the church.
