Waneta passed away Tuesday, June 12 at Mercy Hospital.

Waneta was born January 20, 1930. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lois and Durwood Roberts who farmed east of Missouri Valley, and her younger brother, from Newton, IA.

Waneta attended and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1948. Waneta went to work for Mutual of Omaha Insurance after attending Iowa State University for one year.

Waneta was married December 23, 1951 to her classmate, Glen "Bus" Steward. At the time of their marriage "Bus" was serving in Korea with the U.S. Army. Waneta and "Bus" started their wonderful journey of 61 years while "Bus" was in basic training at Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX.

When "Bus" was discharged on April 19, 1953 they returned to Omaha to work and save money for "Bus" to return to school to complete his degree in Education and Coaching. Using "Bus's'" GI Bill, he enrolled at Teachers College at Nebraska State where they lived in the vet housing unit until "Bus" graduated on August 10, 1955.

Waneta gave birth to their first born son, Roger. Their journey continued with the championship team at Griswold High School for two years, and then on to Clarinda for four years, where their daughter, Kathy, was born.

"Bus" and Waneta came to Des Moines East High School in June of 1967. "Bus" taught Driver's Education and Team Teaching and Waneta was the secretary of (and ran) the Attendance Center. She was also secretary to two Vice-Principals. Waneta was employed at East High School for 18 years. During that time, "Bus" was Head Coach for Varsity Baseball, Sophomore Football for six years leading up to his retirement.

Waneta was cremated and buried on Friday, June 15 at 9:30 a.m. in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter, IA.

Waneta is survived by her husband, Glen "Bus"; her son, Roger of Kansas City, MO; her daughter, Kathy of West Des Moines; her brother, Don of Missouri Valley; an aunt, of Blair, NE, and many cousins and nieces.

Waneta was a wonderful wife, mother, partner and companion for "Bus" for 61 years.

Waneta and Glen "Bus" Steward will be buried in the same grave with one military head stone.
