Anna "Annie Lou" Kilgore
1920 - 2012
Sun City, AZ, Formerly Des Moines

Anna, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 18, 2012. She was the only child of Frederick A. and J. Blanche Ede. Born in Sumter, SC, she moved to Des Moines and lived in the Drake and Beaverdale neighborhoods until moving to Sun City, AZ, last year. She attended North High School and graduated from Drake University with a degree in education. Ann was a member of Kappa Delta Pi. She began her 40 year teaching career in Maxwell, Iowa, but returned to the Des Moines Public Schools as a substitute teacher, homebound teacher, and school liaison educator for school-age patients at Lutheran Hospital.

Ann was an avid teddy bear collector and was known as "the teddy bear lady" by her many friends. She was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, Des Moines Area Retired Teachers, Iowa Retired Teachers, PEO, Chapter IJ, American Association of University Women (AAUW,) and Gold Star Wives of America (her first husband, Robert Bernard Smith, was KIA, WWll.)

Ann is preceded in death by her husband, John H. Kilgore. "Gramma K" will be missed and remembered by her daughter, Susan (Mrs. James O'Dea) and son, John F Kilgore, and her grandchildren, Jennifer and Ryan O'Dea, Kelly, Brad, and Tyler Kilgore and great-grandson, Connor O'Dea. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in Glendale Masonic Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held in Des Moines at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Blank Children's Hospital Newborn ICU.
